Miscarriage Matters

Our Mission

To be a voice for miscarriage in New Zealand.

To improve the experience of miscarriage in New Zealand by empowering people with information, advocacy and support.

To do this by raising awareness, connecting existing services, providing information, delivering care packages, supporting midwives (and other maternity carers), supporting research, and advocating for positive change.

Our Story

My sister, Corrine, and I were pregnant at the same time but only one of us got to hold our baby. The huge contrast in the care we each received made us realise that there were so many positive things that we could do to make things better for families experiencing miscarriage in the future. In the words of Brooke Fraser, “now that I have seen, I am responsible.” We found that there was a great need for an organisation dedicated solely to miscarriage that could join all of the current services together and promote education, openness and understanding around miscarriage.  Miscarriage Matters NZ started out as a real family affair with our aunties and cousins and close friends all getting involved. We at Miscarriage Matters NZ all have loved ones who have been in the position of experiencing a miscarriage and we want to put in place what we wish had been in place for them. We want people who experience miscarriage to have a clear pathway in front of them, to have good information readily available, and for the services that they require to be streamlined and compassionate.  - Aleisha Black, Chairperson, Miscarriage Matters NZ

Miscarriage Matters NZ was formed in July, 2019 and now distributes over 130 care packages every month for women who experience miscarriage in Canterbury, the West Coast, North Shore (Auckland), South Auckland and Wellington. You can follow us on Facebook to show support for what we are doing and to help make miscarriage part of our common knowledge.
